This September, Sims Contemporary in New York City presents Tender Distortions, an exhibition that explores the fluidity of form and the unexpected beauty of transformation. Among the highlighted works is Ralph Paquin’s Morpheus (2015), a monumental abstract sculpture that exemplifies his commitment to material experimentation and conceptual exploration.

"Morpheus"
conte drawing on cast polymer media, highly polished lacquer,

Its vivid surfaces twist and swell in a biomorphic configuration, evoking the mythological namesake—Morpheus, the god of dreams—while reflecting Paquin’s interest in consciousness, transformation, and the invisible forces shaping our reality.
Paquin’s practice bridges biology, mysticism, and cosmology. Rather than replicating literal structures, he distills the rhythms of life into dimensional sculptural forms that feel alive, as though caught in the process of becoming. Morpheusembodies this vision—its distorted yet tender forms suggest both fragility and strength, inviting viewers to consider the paradoxical balance of chaos and harmony.
In addition to Morpheus, Sims Contemporary’s Tender Distortions includes several other Paquin sculptures, continuing his exploration of organomorphic form and layered metaphor. The exhibition underscores the gallery’s mission to spotlight contemporary artists whose work expands the dialogue between abstraction, science, and lived experience.
Collectors and art enthusiasts alike are encouraged to experience Morpheus and Paquin’s other works on view at Sims Contemporary from September 2–20.
An opening reception will be held on September 11 (6–8 pm). Works are available for acquisition both in person and online through Sims Contemporary.
