This August, Sims Contemporary in New York City presents Volume Control, an exhibition that celebrates bold form, dimensionality, and the power of sculptural presence. Among the featured works is Ralph Paquin’s Ultra Gene (2019), a vibrant and commanding piece from his acclaimed Genes & Chromosomes series.
Ultra Gene is striking with its biomorphic geometry and dynamic color, the work draws viewers into the microscopic world of molecular architecture while maintaining a monumental, architectural presence in space.
Paquin’s Genes & Chromosome series stems from his fascination with the microscopic processes by which our bodies process energy and information. These sculptures are both playful and intellectually charged, reflecting his ongoing exploration of the intersection between science and art. As Paquin states, his work “bridges the tangible and the cosmic, the seen and the unseen,” inviting contemplation on the structures and mysteries that shape our reality.
Also featured in Volume Control are Paquin’s Morpheus, PsychoKnotic, and Nebulous, each contributing to a sculptural dialogue that blends biomorphic abstraction with conceptual depth.
Founded as a hub for innovative contemporary art, Sims Contemporary showcases artists whose work challenges boundaries while connecting deeply to themes of form, process, and perception. The gallery’s commitment to featuring bold, dynamic works makes it the ideal setting for Paquin’s sculpture to be experienced in person.
If you are in New York City this month, the Volume Control exhibition runs from August 12–August 30, with an opening reception on August 21 (6–8 pm). For those unable to attend in person, Paquin’s works can be viewed and purchased online through Sims Contemporary.
